Tailormade For Busking

The act’s from Ealing and has just beaten 100s of others in a competition called Gigs Big Busk, backed by London Mayor Boris Johnson.

“Huge congratulations to The Tailormade and to everyone that took part in our gigs competition. London is brimming with musical talent and this summer these talented artists have been bringing pleasure to thousands of people at locations across the capital,” he said.

It’s not clear if The Tailormade was Johnson’s personal favourite. In June the Mayor said London’s best buskers were King’s Parade, shortly after the band was arrested for performing in London’s Leicester Square.

The four-piece from Cricklewood were led away by police after they reached the end of their set.

They didn’t need a permit to perform but police arrested them under the terms of an archaic Metropolitan Police Act from 1839, claiming they were performing in order to earn cash from passers-by.

A month earlier Mayor Johnson had launched a campaign aimed at making London the most busker-friendly city in the world. “This is bringing together the police, boroughs and other organisations to develop a pan-London approach,” he said at the time.
