Jim Dolan, ALS and 6,000 Kazoos
In addition to his work with MSG, Dolan is the President and CEO of Cablevision Systems Corporation. And that’s not all – he also fronts a little band called JD & The Straight Shot, which happens to be opening a handful of upcoming dates for the Eagles. Dolan’s buddy Walsh produced JD & The Straight Shot’s upcoming album, Where I’ve Been.
Walsh had the honor of dumping the bucket of ice water on Dolan’s head on the “Today” show. Dolan, who serves as the governor to the National Basketball Association and the National Hockey League on behalf of the New York Knicks and Ranger, had been challenged by Knicks legend Patrick Ewing, Rangers General Manager Glen Sather and Inglewood, Calif., Mayor James T. Butts.
Most public figures who’ve done the ALS ice bucket challenge have been drenched with water in addition to donating to the ALS Association. But before Walsh gets out his checkbook, he wants to break the kazoo world record with the help of 6,000 attendees at MSG.
The big moment is going down Sept. 18 at The Garden at approximately 7:15 p.m. when JD & The Straight Shot perform their song “Governor’s Blues.” Ticketholders will be given a kazoo upon entering the venue and will be instructed on how to play their part in the tune. JD & The Straight Shot will also be joined by several celebrity guests.
Dolan has pledged to donate $100,000 to the ALS Association if the world record is set. According to GuinnessWorldRecords.com, the current record is a performance with 5,190 kazoos. The historical event took place at the “Big Red Nose Show” at the Royal Albert Hall in London March 14, 2011.
