Odds & Ends: Florida Georgia Line, Chiodos, Flesh For Lulu, Rock The Green

What better act to get fans pumped for up for the big game between longtime rivals the University of Florida Gators and the University of Georgia Bulldogs than Florida Georgia Line?

The “Coors Light Anything Goes 2014 Tailgate,” which takes its name from the country duo’s upcoming sophomore album, is scheduled Oct. 31 at Jacksonville, Fla., at Shipyards. The event takes place the night before the big game in Jacksonville at EverBank Field.

With Florida Georgia Line’s Brian Kelly from Ormond Beach, Fla., and Tyler Hubbard from Monroe, Ga., it’s easy to guess which team each singer is rooting for.

The Tailgate lineup also features Cole Swindell, The Cadillac Three, Clare Dunn, John King, Michael Ray, Buddy Brown and Kimberly Paige.

Tickets go on sale Aug. 30 at 10 a.m. EDT and include an exclusive T-shirt and a digital copy of Anything Goes, which is due out Oct. 14.

Chiodos is taking the rest of the month off so guitarist Thomas Erak can focus on his health.

The band announced Friday that it was leaving its co-bill tour with Blessthefall, dubbed the “Crowd Surf America Tour.” Blessthefall is continuing on with the outing, which is booked through Aug. 31.

“We are sorry to our fans as well as the bands on the tour BlesstheFall, I Killed the Prom Queen and Capture the Crown,” Chiodos posted on Facebook. “Our guitarist Thomas Erak has had a reoccurring medical emergency that needs immediate attention and we want to support him in his recovery. We plan to make up these dates this year. We appreciate our fans’ continued support and look forward to seeing everyone on the upcoming Parks and Devastation tour with A Day To Remember, Bring Me The Horizon, and Motionless in White.”

Chiodos is due back on the road Sept. 4 in Pittsburgh.

Flesh For Lulu’s fans are raising money via an Indiegogo campaign for the band to tour the U.S. following frontman Nick Marsh’s cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The British alternative/goth rock act was making plans to tour the States earlier this year when Marsh was diagnosed with throat and mouth cancer. He’s since completed treatment, having undergone surgery and weeks of chemo and radiation therapy.

Contributions to the campaign, which started Aug. 4 and runs through Oct. 3, will also help fund the band’s new EP.

Available perks for donating include an advance download of the EP, a guitar lesson with Marsh or a live concert dedication.

Milwaukee’s Rock The Green is going to try again in 2015.  

The eco-friendly festival posting the following statement on Facebook Friday to announce it wouldn’t be holding an event in 2014.

“Since our last festival, Rock the Green has been working to build on our success and continue integrating near-zero waste best practices into local events like the city of #Milwaukee’s annual Earth Day celebration. While we won’t be hosting a 2014 festival, we are finalizing our 2015 events calendar and sponsor lineup, and expect to have some good news to announce during the first part of 2015. The schedule will include an expanded fourth annual #EarthDay celebration on Wednesday, April 22, featuring multiple bands on a pedal-powered stage.

“We can’t thank our supporters, sponsors and countless volunteers enough. You make the organization what it is, have validated the concept of #RocktheGreen, and provided a strong foundation for us to build on. We’ll see you soon!”

The Journal Sentinel notes that the 2013 festival was also called off. The 2012 lineup featured Imagine Dragons, Switchfoot, Metric, Third Eye Blind and Atlas Genius.
