Journalist Charles M. Young Dies
Charles M. Young, 63, a rock journalist who introduced America to the burgeoning punk scene at New York’s CBGB in the ’70s as a writer for Rolling Stone, died Aug. 18 following a year-and-a-half battle against an aggressive brain tumor.

Young got his start at Rolling Stone after winning its first national college writing competition.
He penned the magazine’s first cover story on a punk band – Sex Pistols – as well as pieces on the Ramones, Eagles, and KISS, among many others. Young left RS in 1980 and over the years wrote for publications including Musician and Playboy.
In 2010, he helped launch the collectively owned and collectively run news site, thiscantbehappening.net.
