Another Side Of Alejandro Escovedo
Not exactly a touring machine, The Fauntleroys – Nicholas Tremulis, Ivan Julian,
But you can’t keep a good band down and the Fauntleroys are ready for some road work in support of their new EP, Below The Pink Pony, arriving Sept. 16 on Plowboy Records. Now the group is joking that the tour will take up more time than they spent writing the songs on the disc.
The individual members of The Fauntleroy represent a diverse cross section of indie music with Escovedo’s history including The Nuns, Rank and File, Buick MacKane and True Believers as well as his solo work. Julian, who at one time toured with The Foundations, played in Richard Hell & The Voidoids before going solo. Tremulis’ credits include his Nicholas Tremulis Band as well the Nicholas Tremulis Orchestra. Drummer Pitmon pounded out beats with Zuzu’s Petals and worked with hubby Steve Wynn & The Miracle 3 as well as The Baseball Project with R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Scott McCaughey.
“I met Ivan when I lived in New York in 1978, and I’ve known Nick for a long time, and I’ve always been a fan of what those guys do,” Escovedo said. “It was one of those things where we’d always talk about doing something together, and then finally Nick said, ‘Let’s go to New York and hang out for a few days and write and record some songs.”
One of those songs – “I’m In Love With Everything” – was recently featured by USA Today.
The name they chose for the band is inspired by their sense of style. Or, as Pitmon said, “the best wardrobes this side of Willy Deville’s closet.” Check ’em out on one of these stops:
