Raining On Paleo’s Parade
It was the 16th successive sellout Paleo-Nyon, which shifted 8,800 six-day tickets and 26,200 one-day tickets per day. Festival talent booker Dany Hassenstein says it was “a little muddy” but apparently nothing that couldn’t be sorted out by spreading 350 tons of straw and 10 tons of woodchip across the 80 hectare site.
“We had a lot of rain prior to the festival, so the ground was saturated and when it rained a little during the festival, the ground couldn’t absorb it anymore,” Hassenstein told Pollstar. “Straw is better for the soil and easier to collect,” he said, joking about the possibility of the local cows having less to eat this winter.
The weather doesn’t appear to have dampened the spirits of Paleo’s organisers, who are now preparing for 2015 and the festival’s 40th anniversary.
Paleo’s success continues the good run being had by the country’s live music festivals, which includes a sellout for Openair St. Gallen – also within a day – and near sellouts for Gurten and Greenfield.
The acts helping Paleo battle the elements included Stromae, Elton John, The Black Keys, Placebo, The National, and Seasick Steve.
