Promoter Takes Action After ‘Racist’ Cancellation

Melbourne’s Inflation nightclub has to defend itself in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) over charges it canceled an event aimed at African migrants.

Promoter Antony Kwenda Obudho of IDJS Entertainment claimed in documents filed that the club canceled Africa Fest in 2011 five days before.

Obudho wants compensation for financial loss, breach of contract and distress on grounds of Inflation’s “blatant racial discrimination.”

Inflation general manager Patrick Dromi told the Melbourne Herald Sun the cancellation was due to security, after police warned of past violence at cultural events staged by the promoter. The VCAT case continues in August.
