Duran Duran Sues Fan Club

Duran Duran filed suit against Worldwide Fan Clubs – which operates the band’s fan club – for breach of contract, alleging inaccurate accounting and failure to pay revenues as agreed.

The fan club, based in Glenview, Ill., entered into a contract with Duran Duran allowing it to collect memberships and sell merchandise. The contract also allegedly stipulates Duran Duran would get 75 percent of the profits.

The suit, filed July 21 in Cook County Circuit Court, seeks $40,000 in damages, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Update: Duran Duran posted the following statement on its website Thursday to address the lawsuit.

“Duran Duran value and respect their many fans around the world and feel compelled to correct the media’s misrepresentation of its lawsuit against Worldwide Fan Clubs, Inc. The Band emphatically states that the lawsuit is not against its loyal fans but simply seeks to protect its rights against the company that formerly managed its fan club.

“Duran Duran have now brought their official fan community in-house and continue to make every effort to provide the highest level of service.”
