Beats Sues Knockoffs
Beats Electronics, the company co-founded by Dr. Dre that makes premium headphones and which was recently purchased by Apple for $3 billion, is suing a number of Chinese websites for allegedly promoting knockoffs of the devices.
Counterfeit Beats headphones are even available in the U.S., where they are fairly easy to spot because the logo has either been slightly altered or the phones don’t seem to cancel out anything.
Beats estimates it has lost $135 billion through counterfeiting, and that’s the amount the suit seeks. Since it is almost impossible to find the people making the headphones in China, the suit is aimed at websites that sell the knockoffs, according to Music Times.
