Patty Griffin & The ‘American Kid’
This tour is definitely for fans who appreciate fine songwriting bundled with excellent musicianship and delivery. Griffin is supporting two albums on this adventure. Her latest, American Kid, is her first album of mostly new material since 2007’s Children Running Through. Since 2007 she released Downtown Church in 2010 and joined Robert Plant’s Band Of Joy.
But American Kid isn’t the only long-player Griffin is supporting on this outing. Her “lost” album – Silver Bell – was recorded in 2000 for A&M but was lost in the shuffle during that era’s major label acquisition game. Although it didn’t receive a proper release at the start of the new millennium, two songs – “Top Of The World” and “Truth #2” – became hits for the Dixie Chicks. Plus, Dixie Chicks lead singer Natalie Maines recorded the title track for her own solo album, Mother.
Although Griffin is headlining this adventure, she’s not the only songwriter on the tour. Support comes from Oklahoma’s John Fullbright, who released his second studio album, Songs, earlier this year.
