StubHub Layoffs

Whatever improvements the rest of the economy may be experiencing apparently haven’t made their way to secondary ticketer StubHub, which confirmed July 2 to Tech Crunch’s popular technology website it recently underwent a round of layoffs.

Though StubHub declined to specify numbers, TechCrunch says it’s believed about 100 employees were cut from a headcount of approximately 700, or about 15 percent.

“StubHub announced a reorganization in June that will allow us to be more nimble and efficient in serving fans,” StubHub said in a statement to TechCrunch. “The organization change had the unfortunate consequence of eliminating the roles of some StubHub employees.

“The majority of positions eliminated were in our Field Operations division, where the proliferation of electronic tickets has reduced our need for on the ground customer support.”

While StubHub is still a force to be reckoned with, it faces a stiff challenge from Ticketmaster’s new entry into the secondary market, TM+, which reportedly has already put substantial pressure on StubHub’s numbers.
