J. Cole Brings Back ‘Dollar & A Dream Tour’
Of course, with a bargain like that, admission to the gigs will be first-come, first-serve. But before you get out your pennies, you’ll need to know where to go. Each venue will be announced the day of the show via Cole’s Twitter page. For now we can tell you the dates and cities.
“You got a few weeks to freshen up on the words,” he tweeted. “See you soon.”
Here’s the plan:
July 3 – London, U.K.
July 15 – New York, N.Y.
July 17 – Miami, Fla.
July 19 – Raleigh, N.C.
July 21 – Chicago, Ill.
July 23 – Los Angeles, Calif.
Cole will be backed on the tour by musicians as well as DJs.
On Monday Cole posted a letter to fans reflecting on the past five years and the significance of The Warm Up.
“The Warm Up is a declaration of dedication to Greatness. Told from the perspective of a kid who wants more than what his city has to offer him. The crime. The stagnation. He wants more from the girls he dates. He wants out of Muhammad’s house. He refuses to let anyone tell him he can’t dream. That he won’t make it. He believes in himself. He dedicates his life to his craft, because he’s finally realized that the work that you put it today has a direct and absolute impact on the life you live tomorrow. …
“I imagine that 5 years ago we all wanted more. The Warm Up was just something that put music and words to what we were feeling. As I write this I’m on a plane from Sydney, Australia back to New York City. Music has taken me around the world now, doing shows in place I never thought I would be. I’m grateful.
“I’m wondering where you are today. … No matter where you were 5 years ago, I hope that today you are closer to your dreams. I know that everything hasn’t gone exactly the way you planned, it hasn’t for me either. But our job isn’t to plan. Our job includes 3 responsibilities. 1. To dream. 2. To believe that dream is attainable. And 3. To work hard every day towards that dream. Let God handle the rest.”
Since releasing The Warm Up, Cole – who is the first act signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation label – put out a few more mixtapes and two studio albums. His most recent LP is 2013’s Born Sinner.
