Cicero Police Supt. Bernard Harrison told the Chicago Tribune authorities feared violence would break out and stepped in to stop the show.
“We have indications from intelligence sources that there were going to be problems and there have been many problems at his concerts in other places,” Harrison said. “I spoke to the director of the theater myself and asked if he could cancel the concert. He complied with my request.”
As for whether the event would still go on elsewhere, Harrison added that he planned to obtain a written letter from the venue ensuring the concert wouldn’t take place at another location.
“It is our belief that the concert has been canceled,” he said. But, “for that night we are preparing extra security. We have to err on the side of caution. We are providing extra officers to work the street and be in the area of the theater.”
The Trib noted there have been a number of recent reports on social media that Chief Keef or a member of his entourage would be a target of violence at a concert. Keef’s cousin, Chicago rapper Big Glo, was killed in a shooting in Chicago’s South Side in April.
