Odds & Ends: Alanis Morissette, Miley Cyrus, Jeff Beck

Alanis Morissette pens a campaign song for a congressional hopeful … Miley Cyrus addresses drug overdose rumors … Jeff Beck dishes on the “nightmare” that was touring with Brian Wilson.

Before resuming her tour at London’s O2 on Tuesday Miley Cyrus took part in a press conference at the venue, where she assured the public that she’s ready to return to the stage and that it really was an allergic reaction – and not a drug overdose – that landed her in the hospital.

Boasting that she’s now “the poster child for good health,” Cyrus said she’s been doing yoga, eating honey and taking vitamins, according to People.

“I didn’t have a drug overdose,” she told reporters. “I took some sh**y antibiotics that a doctor gave me for a sinus infection and I had a reaction.”

And although she tweets about getting stoned, the star says she avoids smoking and alcohol before gigs.

“I’m probably the only one on this tour who doesn’t drink or smoke before a show, as I take this really seriously. It’s almost like being an athlete being up here, because if someone was f***ed up, they definitely couldn’t do my show.”

Cyrus’ next show is Saturday in Leeds, England.

Alanis Morissette has done her part to support Marianne Williamson in her bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives by writing a campaign song for the best-selling self-help author/teacher/lecturer.

In the YouTube description of the tune Morissette writes, “I was attempting to capture the passion, mission, activism, deep humanity and tenderness of Marianne, the new political sensibility she represents and the consciousness that produced it. … I love this song. I love this woman and I love a world that would vote for her.”

A few other famous friends have endorsed Williamson, including Jane Lynch, Eva Longoria, Nicole Richie and Frances Fisher. Williamson is hoping to fill Rep. Henry Waxman’s seat in California’s 33rd Congressional District.

Jeff Beck has revealed that his 2013 co-headline tour with Brian Wilson didn’t exactly produce good vibrations between the guitar god and the Beach Boy.

During an interview with Classic Rock Magazine, Beck says the experience was a “bit of a nightmare.”

He explained what happened in the studio before the excursion.

“For four days I sat there and didn’t even know Brian was in the room. He was so quiet; he never uttered a syllable. And yet they gave me these parts that allegedly he’d written. They should have got the bloody record done first, but they got excited and we ended up doing the Jeff Beck-Brian Wilson tour prematurely.”

Beck added, “He doesn’t speak. He’s clearly in need of attention – but that’s just my opinion.”
