“Like To Get To Know You” opens with the line “You share my home, you share my kids and my dog but I swear I don’t know you at all.”

After describing seeing other couples holding hands and laughing, Simon and Brickell sing, “And I wouldn’t trade places with anyone, none of them. ‘Cause I’d like to get to know you again.” The song was also posted on Brickell’s “Song Of The Day” page on her website.

Simon and Brickell appeared at a hearing at Connecticut’s Norwalk Superior Court Monday after their arrest Saturday. The couple, which was married in 1992 and has three children, told the judge they didn’t consider one another a threat.

According to a police report obtained by the Associated Press, Simon was the one who made the 911 call (and then hung up) Saturday night.

Brickell told officers Simon shoved her and she slapped him. The 48-year-old, who has been touring with Steve Martin in support of their collaborative album Love Has Come For You, explained that she confronted her 72-year-old husband because he did something “to break her heart.”

The police report noted that Brickell smelled of alcohol when the officers arrived at their New Canaan, Conn., property that houses a recording studio. She had a bruise on her wrist and Simon had a superficial cut on his ear.

Brickell told police it wasn’t the first time an argument between the two became physical. But although she asked an officer to feel a lump on her head, the singer didn’t want to have her injuries photographed or elaborate on the other confrontations.

No protective order was issued during Monday’s hearing. The couple is due back in court May 16.
