A former service yard for Fenway Park is being converted into a new 5,000-capacity performing arts center by Fenway Sports Group Real Estate.
The new venue – titled the MGM Music Hall At Fenway – will be located down the street from Fenway Park, the iconic home of the Boston Red Sox, on the corner of Lansdowne Street and Ipswich Street. Live Nation will operate the venue and the opening is currently scheduled for Fall 2021.
The new venue will be very close to the 2,425-capacity House Of Blues Boston, which is also owned by Live Nation, but no one seems to be afraid of saturating the market.
“The MGM Music Hall at Fenway will provide even more opportunities for artists to connect with the Boston community, creating lifelong memories for fans and adding to the city’s rich musical and cultural history,” Live Nation New England President Don Law said in a statement.
HOB Boston is a must-play venue for most East Coast theater and club-level tours. In the next two weeks the venue is hosting Matt and Kim, Steel Panther, As I Lay Dying, Jason Bonham’s Led Zeppelin Experience, Cousin Stizz, Our Last Night, Summer Walker, and Madeon.
“The MGM Music Hall is an exciting addition to Boston’s music scene, and will be a beautiful, state-of-the-art performance venue,” Boston Mayor Marty Walsh said in a statement. “Projects like these are a sign of our city’s strength, and I thank Fenway Sports Group for their commitment to opening this venue in Boston, their contributions to the surrounding community, and their recent commitment to the Boston Arts Academy with their partners at Live Nation.”
Live Nation boss Michael Rapino tweeted that he was on site today to break ground on the new venue.
