Loud Records Prudential Center Event To Feature Wu-Tang, Three 6 Mafia, More

Wu-Tang Clan, Three 6 Mafia and more will pay tribute to seminal label Loud Records this October.

Hip-hop luminaries will convene at Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., on Oct. 11, to honor seminal label Loud Records.

Loud Twenty-Five will feature performances by Wu-Tang Clan, Three 6 Mafia, Xzibit, Tha Alkaholiks, M.O.P, Dead Prez and Pete Rock, all of whom released music on the label.

Big Pun, who died in 2000, will receive a tribute from Remy Ma and Fat Joe, while Mobb Deep, which lost founding member Prodigy in 2017, will perform with unspecified special guests.

The event’s promotional materials also include “+ ???” suggesting that more artist announcements are ahead.

“Loud 25 is a dream come true,” Steve Rifkind, Loud Records CEO and founder, wrote in a statement. “When we started this journey 25 years ago I could never have imagined what type of impact our artists would have on music. The reunion is a celebration of the artists that made everything possible.”

Wu-Tang Clan is currently touring to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its 1993 debut album Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers), released on Loud, and will headline California festival Desert Daze, which takes place Oct. 10-13.

Pollstar Boxoffice highlights include a June 9 gig at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, where the hip-hop group sold 2,280 tickets and grossed $286,850, and a June 14 concert at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., where Wu-Tang sold 6,455 tickets and grossed $418,443.

Dead Prez, while keeping a decidedly lower profile, has remained a stalwart on the club circuit, with highlights including grosses of $9,610 at Boston’s Brighton Music Hall on Jan. 20, 2018, and $9,330 at Denver’s Roxy Theatre on Sept. 27, 2018. The incendiary hip-hop act even dropped by Dave Chappelle’s stand at New York’s Radio City Music Hall in August 2017.

Other acts on the bill are more elusive. Outside of a single Chicago gig in 2018, Three 6 Mafia hasn’t performed since 2014; the group will appear at Atlanta’s One Musicfest in September prior to playing Loud Twenty-Five.

Xzibit, meanwhile, returned to the road after several years away earlier this year as support for Cypress Hill’s “West Coast High” tour.
