A ‘Humbling Vote Of Confidence’: Wacken 2020 Sells Out In 21 Hours
Wacken Open Air traditionally starts selling tickets the day after the festival ends. This year, it took fans only 21 hours to snatch up all of the available 75,000 tickets for the 31th edition of Wacken, July 30-Aug. 1, 2020.
The pre-sale opened at midnight on the Monday after the event. Buyers logged in from 83 countries.
The festival founders were delighted: “We are stoked that tickets for the Wacken Open Air 2020 have again sold out in a sensationally short period of time,” said festival founder Thomas Jensen.
“The great success of this year’s anniversary edition and our announcement of the first bands for next year have obviously convinced our fans that they can rely on us for which we are extremely thankful,” he said, adding that “it also might be that the reason for this humbling vote of confidence is that metal god Rob Halford will celebrate 50 years of Judas Priest in Wacken,” next year.
Also confirmed for Wacken 2020 are Amon Amarth, Mercyful Fate, At The Gates, Hypocrisy, Venom, Sodom, Death Angel and more.
Co-Founder Holger Hübner said, “it is our declared goal to create an even greater festival every new year. We can only thank our fans wholeheartedly for relying on our experience to put together another exciting band billing. Of course, metal music always comes first, but also the supporting program will again offer innovations. We will make every effort to live up to the advance praise of this quick sell-out.”
The entire Wacken team thanked their fans in a heartfelt message:
“Metalheads! We are sitting here in Wacken and are honestly overwhelmed by what just happened: Wacken Open Air 2020 sold out in 21 hours, all 75,000 tickets are gone! Thank you for your incredible loyalty, and the faith you put in us!
“You are the best fans in the whole word! This is why we already can’t wait to celebrate a one of a kind metal party with you next year. Look forward to many more awesome bands and a festival for which we put our international focus on South- and Central America and take you along for a metal journey into the realms of the Mayans and Aztecs! Fittingly, our first evaluations indicate that we will welcome guests from 83 different nations on the Holy Ground.
For now, there isn’t much we could add but: THANX FOR YOUR SUPPORT – SEE YOU IN WACKEN – RAIN OR SHINE!”
