Dream Theater Announces Fall North American ‘Distance Over Time Tour’
Aloysuis Lim / LAMC Productions – Dream Theater
John Petrucci of Dream Theater is lost in the music during the band’s show at Zepp @ Bigbox in Singapore Oct. 10.
Dream Theater’s celebration of the 20th anniversary of Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory continues with a fall North American tour that features more than two dozen dates.
In addition to playing its 1999 album in its entirety, the progressive metal band will also show off tunes from its new album, Distance Over Time, and other picks from its 30-year career.
Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory was ranked No. 1 in a 2012 Rolling Stone’s poll of readers favorite prog rock albums. The magazine also included the LP in its 2015 round up of the Greatest Prog Rock Albums Of All Time.
“A two-act, 80-minute, non-linear production, Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory is composed of nine songs that delve into the murder mystery by exploring a new character’s past-life regressions and paranormal experiences. To supplement the rather bewildering story, the band weaves together epic instrumental flourishes influenced by early Rush, Fates Warning and Queensrÿche,” RS writes.
Distance over Time was released in February, marking the band’s 14th studio album. The album nabbed the No.1 spot on iTunes Top Album Chart and also charted No. 5 on the Top Current album Chart, No. 24 on the Top 200 Albums Chart, No. 2 on the Hard Music Chart and No. 3 on the Rock Chart.
The new leg of gigs follows a spring North American run and its ongoing European excursion.
Recent reports submitted to Pollstar’s BoxOffice include a sold-out April 12 show at New York’s Beacon Theatre that sold 2,746 tickets and grossed $210,712 and a June 27 gig at Berlin’s Tempodrom that sold 1,329 tickets and grossed $105,957 (95,024 euros).
The fall tour launches Sept. 26 at the Louisville Palace in Louisville, Ky., and dates are booked through Nov. 11 at Centre In The Square in Kitchener, Ontario.
Tickets go on sale Friday, July 26 at 10 a.m. local time.
