Bonnaroo, Okeechobee Festival Vets Promise A Unique Vibe For Miami Beach Pop
Miami Beach Pop festival may be the latest in a wave of new events on the concert landscape this year, but producers including Bonnaroo, Okeechobee and Outside Lands festivals veteran Paul Peck and Okeechobee founder and longtime industry vet Steve Sybesma, promise to bring their experience to the fore in creating a bold, diverse, one-of-a-kind experience in South Florida Nov. 8-10.
The festival, while still shoring up its final lineup, will feature cross-genre artist collaborations spanning rock, pop, Latin, R&B, electronic, jazz, country, reggae and more in representation of Miami Beach’s status of not just a southern American city, but a global destination as well.
In addition to three stages of music, Miami Beach Pop will also spotlight sustainable event practices and encourage attendees to adopt more eco-friendly lifestyles and participate in wellness activities including meditation, mindfulness practices, yoga and more. There will be art collaborations and interaction with local businesses, schools, community leaders and nonprofit organizations as well.
Peck, in particular, is an established curator of artist collaborations as one of the creative forces behind Bonnaroo’s “SuperJam.” He’s serving as chief creative office for Miami Pop, and describes a vision for the festival that promises unique experiences with the vibrancy of Miami Beach itself serving as a visual and cultural backdrop for day and evening performances.
“It’s really a celebration of the shared connection of everyone living on the planet,” Peck tells Pollstar. “We’re creating something that’s going to feel welcoming to a really wide range of different types of people. A place people want to be.
“Miami Beach is an international destination and from a programming perspective, I believe we’re going to have an artist mix unlike any other festival anywhere. We’re going to crystallize this idea of cross-generational, cross-genre, cross-cultural connections through the superstar collaborative concerts that I’m known for that’s going to bring these different genres and artists together on the stage for a one time only concert that blends those flavors.”
Speaking of flavors, there will also be a culinary showcase of Miami Beach chefs and a curated food program spotlighting the area’s myriad cultures and cuisines, along local craft breweries.
Sybesma, a festival co-founding partner and CEO, points to the Miami Beach locale as an attraction of its own.
“This is truly a festival like no other.” Sybesma says. “You can make this your festival vacation – or staycation – in America’s tropical paradise. The beautiful art deco area hotels will be filled with like-minded music fans and festival-goers, who can rediscover Ocean Drive, enjoy a morning swim in the ocean, dine at the many world-class restaurants in Miami Beach, and walk in and out of the festival, just a few steps away.”
