The Prodigy’s Keith Flint Dies

Keith Flint, frontman of The Prodigy, was found dead Monday morning at his home in Essex, England. He was 49.

“We were called to concerns for the welfare of a man at an address in Brook Hill, North End, just after 8:10 a.m. on Monday,” a statement from Essex police read. “We attended and, sadly, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

The Prodigy confirmed the news via social media. “It is with deepest shock and sadness that we can confirm the death of our brother and best friend Keith Flint,” the band wrote on Twitter. “A true pioneer, innovator and legend. He will be forever missed. We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.”

Last month, The Prodigy announced the 10-date U.S. leg of its “No Tourists” tour slated for May and June. Flint’s death comes weeks after the band’s successful tours in the U.K., Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

Flint originally joined The Prodigy as a dancer in 1990, but began contributing vocals in 1996. He sang on two of the bands biggest hits, “Firestarter” and “Breathe,” both off the 1997 album The Fat of the Land.

The Prodigy’s seventh and most recent studio album No Tourists was released in November, and went straight to No. 1 in the U.K. – just like all the band’s previous albums, excluding 1992 debut Experience.
