SMG Ups Becky Colwell To West Regional Booking Director
SMG has tapped Greek Theater L.A. GM Becky Colwell to take the role of SMG West Regional Booking Director, the company announced Feb. 18.
“We are excited to add Becky to our Regional Booking Team,” Jim McCue, SMG senior vice president, stated. “The Greek Theater is one of our premier venues. Having Becky lend her knowledge of artists and tours to our west coast venues strengthens our efforts.
“Becky has done a brilliant job at the Greek and her success has been recognized by numerous industry awards. She will help secure top shows and attractions to our SMG venues in the west,” McCue added.
During Colwell’s tenure at the 5,800-capacity Greek, which she’s led since 2015, the venue was recognized in 2016 and 2017 as Pollstar’s Best Small Outdoor Venue, and Colwell was nominated as venue executive of the year in 2018 and 2017. She was also IEBA’s venue executive of the year om 2017, while the Greek was named the trade organization’s amphitheatre of the year, also in 2017.
Under Colwell’s leadership, the Greek Theatre has averaged 5,047 tickets sold per show for an average gross of $308,594. In 2018, some of its most notable sold-out shows reported to Pollstar included Khalid, Smokey Robinson, Vance Joy, Kidz Bop Live, Jackson Browne, Alice Cooper, Charlie PuthLeon Bridges, Miguel, Arcade Fire, Ringo Starr & His All Starr Band, 5 Seconds of Summer, Christina Aguilera and Hillsong Worship.
SMG recently announced it is in the process of merging with AEG Facilities, pending regulatory approvals, after which it will be known as ASM Global. The Greek Theatre is owned by the City of Los Angeles and managed by SMG.
