Stormzy Headlines Glastonbury 2019
The Friday headliner for Glastonbury‘s return in 2019 has been confirmed: it is Stormzy, grime artist and BRIT award winner from South London, England.
“We’re delighted to announce that Stormzy is confirmed as the first headliner for Glastonbury 2019. The multi award-winning British MC will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 28th,” Glastonbury’s announcement reads.
The announcement was made via posters in the windows of Oxfam’s shops in Glastonbury town centre and in Streatham, London, close to where Stormzy grew up.
“Very happy to confirm Stormzy as our first headliner for next year,” said Emily Eavis. “He’s one of the most exciting British artists to come along in years and after seeing him play here in 2017 we knew next time he had to come back and headline the Pyramid. See you there Friday night!”
This will be Stormzy’s third Glastonbury appearance, following hailed performances in the Sonic tent (2016) and on the Other Stage in 2017. The artist has plenty of international festival experience under his belt.
This year alone he performed at Field Day in Australia, Secret Solstice in Iceland, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands, as well as at his own festival called #merky, which returns to Ibiza, Spain, in 2019 for a third year.
Stormzy won two BRIT awards this year, for Best Male Solo Artist and his debut album “Gang Signs & Prayer”, which was released on February 24, 2017.
