InCuya Music Festival Cancels Partnership With AEG Presents, Puts Kibosh On 2019 Edition
Less than three months after InCuya Music Festival made its debut in downtown Cleveland, organizers announced that the event won’t be returning in 2019.
The inaugural fest, put on by the Cleveland Concert Company and AEG Presents Aug. 25-26, featured performances from New Order, The Avett Brothers, Awolnation, The Revivalists, K.Flay, SZA, Cake, Take & The Bangas and more. The event’s partners included Destination Cleveland and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, with admission to the Hall included with every ticket purchased.
The decision to put the festival’s follow-up edition on hold was made after the Cleveland Concert Company called off its partnership with AEG Presents.
“In light of cancelling its contract with AEG Presents, the organizers will determine a more sustainable business model for future events,’’ Cleveland Concert Company (aka Triple C) said in a statement Nov. 2, according to The Plain Dealer.
“With regard to AEG’s restructuring, AEG Presents parted ways with several people who had been primary contacts for Triple C as well as changing leadership for markets that included ours,’’ Triple C board member Sunny Nixon told the paper, an apparent reference to senior VP Joe Litvag recently leaving AEG Presents.
A statement on InCuya’s Facebook page seems to leave the door open for a return another year.
“Thank you to all who supported InCuya’s inaugural year! The festival backers have hit pause on planning 2019, as you may have read in Cleveland media. We hope to have updates on InCuya’s longer term future for you soon! In the meantime, we encourage everyone to support the Rock Hall, the Cleveland arts and music scene, local musicians who appeared on our stages this year, and the wonderful businesses who were all part of the 2018 InCuya experience!”
