Concert Pulse: Shakira, Chris Stapleton, Bob Dylan Arrive Ahead Of 3Q Charts

Battling it out on top of Pollstar’s Global Concert Pulse are still besties Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift, whose average grosses on her North American “Reputation” stadium tour remain above $10.5 million.

Sheeran was briefly ahead a few weeks ago, with an average gross near $14 million as his UK and Ireland reports included four-show engagements such as $28.7 million grossed at Wembley Stadium in London.

His North American touring is nothing to sneeze at, however, with recent reports including back-to-back two-night stands at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey (107,500 tickets, $11.22 million grossed) Sept. 21-22 and Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass., which sold 110,238 tickets and grossed $9.83 million. That’s similar but not quite at the level of Swift’s three-night, back-to-back runs at the two venues in July, which both grossed right around $22 million. At No. 2 on the chart, his average gross is $9.7 million.

New on the weekly Concert Pulse chart, ahead of Pollstar’s Third Quarter Ticket Sales Charts, this week are major artists including Shakira, Chris Stapleton, Bob Dylan and

Shakira just wrapped the North American leg of her El Dorado Tour, which had been delayed after the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer and UNICEF goodwill ambassador said she required recovery time for a vocal cord hemorrhage pushing European and north American dates into summer 2018.

Boxoffice reports from both runs include two nights at the Forum in Inglewood, Calif., Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, which sold a combined 25,134 tickets and grossed $2.38 million, July 3 at WiZink Center in Madrid, Spain, (15,810 tickets, $1.51 million grossed), June 28 at Altice Arena in Portugal (17,219, $1.15 million), and two nights at Accorhotels Arena in Paris June 13-14, which sold 29,067 tickets and grossed $2.23 million. Shakira is No. 21 on the Concert Pulse this week, with an average gross just under $1.5 million and 17,035 tickets sold on average.

Chris Stapleton, who is up for five CMA awards including the coveted Entertainer of the Year and still in the middle of his “All American Road Show” tour that includes Marty Stuart and Brent Cobb, hits the Pulse at No. 29, with an average gross of $846,586 and 13,574 tickets sold per city on reports. His largest gross is also his most recent, with Aug. 24-25 at Bank of NH Pavilion in Gilford, N.H., selling 18,088 tickets and grossing $1.08 million. Other standouts include Aug. 23 at Saratoga Performing Arts Center in New York (17,206, $872,785), the Forum in Inglewood Aug. 18 (12,800, $996,505), Usana Amphitheatre in Salt Lake City Aug. 11 (20,095, $1.03 million) and Pepsi Center in Denver Aug. 10, which sold 12,156 tickets and grossed $1.02 million.

Upcoming dates for the Traveller into early November include Jiffy Lube Live in Bristow, Va., Madison Square Garden in New York and Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore.

Bob Dylan, who kicks off a North American tour leg this week, just wrapped some major dates Down Under, with 6,003 tickets sold to Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, Aug. 26, which grossed $564,345, 3,654 tickets sold to Newcastle Entertainment Centre in Broadmeadow Aug. 22 ($408,115), 7,798 tickets (sold out) to ICC Sydney Theatre ($857,990) and another 5,176 tickets sold to RAC Arena in Perth, which grossed $583,827 Aug. 8. He’s No. 36 on the chart with a hefty average gross of $606,227.
