Gary Numan Cancels Cleveland Show After Bus Hits, Kills Pedestrian
An elderly man was hit by Gary Numan’s tour bus in Cleveland today and reportedly died from his injuries. Numan has subsequently canceled his scheduled performance at House of Blues in Cleveland this evening.
The accident occurred at 12:45 p.m. on Superior Avenue in Cleveland, when a 91-year-old man pushing a cart was in the crosswalk and the driver of Numan’s bus hit him, according to WEWS-TV. The man was found dead on the scene, police told the station.
The driver was not arrested and police did not find him to be impaired, according to the station.
A representative for House Of Blues in Cleveland confirmed with Pollstar that Numan’s scheduled show tonight has been canceled. A statement posted to Twitter read: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, tonight’s show with Gary Numan at House of Blues Cleveland has been cancelled. Refunds will be made available at the point of purchase.”
Numan is currently on tour with Nightmare Air and is scheduled to play Headliners Music Hall in Louisville, Ky., tomorrow.
The artist, best known for his song “Cars,” spoke to Pollstar last year, discussing his view of the music industry and the evolution of his own career. In that interview he said: “All this talk about the way the industry has changed and how record sales have collapsed – all of these things are true. But we are now able to balance that a little bit by supplying fans with different things that we don’t mind paying for and that’s making the difference. My album sales way back when were 10, 20, 30 times what they are now but I’m still able to earn a living from it because of the Internet and a close relationship with the fans. Their expectations have allowed these different things to come into play.”
His last reported show in the U.S. was for 951 attendees at 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C., Dec. 9, when he grossed $28,530.
