Here She Goes Again: Cher Announces North American Arena Tour

Cher is hitting the road in North America for the first time in five years, after rave reviews in “Mama Mia 2: Here We Go Again,” successful Las Vegas and Atlantic City residencies and a smattering of dates  this year that left fans wanting more of one of pop’s enduring, authentic divas. She’s also releasing an album, Dancing Queen, in tribute to the music of ABBA and due to drop Sept. 28.

While other superstars of the 1960s and ‘70s are announcing farewell tours, there’s no such indication in Cher’s announcement that she’s having any of that. She announced the 30-date “Here We Go Again” outing on “Ellen” Friday morning, and from the looks of the itinerary – dates so far run through May and are all in the eastern U.S. and Canada – it’s all but certain there will be more to come in the West.

After wrapping her current visit to Australia and New Zealand, Cher will kick off the New Year Jan. 17 at Germain Arena in Ft. Myers, Fla., and include stops in Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville, Chicago, Detroit, St. Louis, Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Ontario, Boston, New York and a slew of secondary markets in between.

It’s a safe bet ticket will go fast. Cher’s last full-fledged tour, in 2014 and with Cyndi Lauper in support, spanned 49 sold-out dates in four months, moving 608,435 tickets and grossing $545,78,237.

Tickets go onsale Friday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. local times through LiveNation.com. Citi cardmembers will have access to a presale Wednesday,  Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. local through Citi’s Private Pass program, with details available at citiprivatepass.com. Those purchasing tickets online will also be able to redeem a physical or digital copy of Dancing Queen with their purchase as long as they do so by May 19.

The tour is a rare chance to see an artist performing live who has achieved just about everything that can be done in the entertainment industry since becoming a backup singer working for producer Phil Spector in 1963. A performer, actor, TV variety show star, Cher will soon add Broadway producer to her resume with “The Cher Show,” a music opening on the Great White Way Dec. 3.

And later this year, she will add Kennedy Center honoree to a list of awards including the Oscar, Grammy, Emmy, and Cannes Film Festival.
