Live Nation Aligns With Aussie Players For Fortitude Music Hall

Brisbane, Australia, is getting a 3,300-capacity music venue thanks to an alliance of Live Nation, John “JC” Collins of the Triffid venue in Newstead, Australia; Paul Piticco of Secret Sounds; and Scott Hutchinson of private construction company Hutchinson Builders.

Fortitude Music Hall will be built at Brunswick Street Mall in the city’s Fortitude Valley, and is promised to include “homage to the iconic Brisbane venue Festival Hall” and state-of-the-art production.

“The Fortitude Music Hall is set to be an industry-leading venue not just in Brisbane, but in Australia,” Roger Field, CEO of Live Nation Australasia, said in a statement. “The 3,300-person capacity will fill a gap in the market and will ensure that Brisbane and the Valley continue to attract the highest calibre of performers, while giving local audiences even more live experiences to enjoy.”

The site is already under construction and executives provided a tour and showed plans Sept. 5, announcing Andrew Gutteridge of Arkhefield as the architect.

Hutchinson, owner of Australia’s Hutchinson Builders, who purchased the building and then enlisted Collins and Piticco as partners, who then turned to Live Nation.

The promotion giant acquired a 51 percent stake in Pittico and Jessica Ducrou’s Secret Sounds Group in 2016, giving it control over Australian Splendour In The Grass and the Falls Music & Arts festivals.

Triffid has become an anchor venue in the Brisbane (the capital of Queensland) scene. So far this year the venue has hosted Nothing But Thieves, Streetlight Manifesto, Pvris, Story Of The Year, Xavier Rudd, LANY, Kamasi Washington, King Krule, Car Seat Headrest, Grouplove and many others.

Live Nation is also spearheading or part of numerous new venue developments in North America, including the $50 million-plus Met Philly redevelopment in Philadelphia and the just-announced Fillmore New Orleans. That 2,000-capacity project joins the apparent trend of larger, indoor general-admission spaces, including the indoor/outdoor venue being built along the Ohio River by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
