Phoenix’s Talking Stick Resort Postpones Reopening
With repairs taking longer than expected after recent storms in the area, Scottsdale, Ariz.’s Talking Stick Resort has been forced to push back its targeted reopen date, as well as postponing a handful of concerts including Daughtry and Zedd.
The resort includes multiple live event venues: the 1,600-capacity Salt River Grand Ballroom, the 650-seat Showroom at Talking Stick Resort, and the outdoor concert stage at The Pool at Talking Stick Resort.
A severe storm and flooding on Aug. 10 caused the Talking Stick’s generators and back-up generators to malfunction, with the complete loss of power throughout the resort. Guests were evacuated and relocated to nearby hotels.
An Aug. 13 statement from the resort explained that an evaluation of the generator malfunctions found that multiple storms contributed to the problem, with water from a fourth storm in recent days flowing “into the area where the main and back-up generators are located, causing serious water damage.”
Talking Stick Resort had hoped to reopen Aug. 19 but an Aug. 17 statement said that based on daily assessments, more time is needed to complete repairs from the storm and replace damaged equipment. A new reopening date hasn’t been announced yet.
The following shows are being rescheduled, with new dates to be confirmed: Terry Fator on Aug. 24, the Labor Day pool parties featuring DJ Diesel (aka Shaquille O’Neal) on Sept. 1 and Zedd on Sept. 2, Burton Cummings on Sept. 7 and Daughtry on Sept. 8. Fans can hold onto their tickets or request refunds at the point of purchase.
The resort also had to cancel a handful of events scheduled between Aug. 10-18 including the Arizona State Poker championship, a Keno Tournament, and 3LUA + Elephante on Aug. 18.
Ticketholders can contact the Box Office at 480-850-7734 for more information while guests with hotel reservations can call 866-877-9897 for details about their scheduled dates.
