UPDATE: Good Charlotte To Honor Slain Maryland Newspaper Employees
UPDATE: In addition to announcing a full North American tour, Good Charlotte will be playing a benefit concert to honor workers at the Capital Gazette who were murdered by a gunman in the band’s home state.
Titled “Annapolis Rising: A Benefit For The Capital Gazette And Free Press,” the July 28 event will take place on College Avenue by Maryland State House in Annapolis and feature live music and guest speakers.
“I feel everything starts at home, it starts in your community and this is the place in Maryland that we come from. This is the place we go back to. We feel very, very deeply connected to Annapolis and it’s a very important place to us. It’s very important for us to show up for the city,” Joel Madden told The Associated Press.
Ticketing information will be made available in the coming weeks, but proceeds will benefit a fund set up for the victims and survivors, and journalism scholarships.
The shooting was carried out by an individual with a personal conflict against the newspaper June 28, killing John McNamara, Wendi Winters, Rob Hiaasen, Rebecca Smith and Gerald Fischman.
