NorCal’s Treasure Island Festival Slots October Return In Oakland

After a one-year hiatus, Treasure Island Music Festival is once again staging, this time at a new location in the San Francisco Bay Area market. 
The festival will take place Oct. 13-14 at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park in Oakland, Calif.
Treasure Island took a break in 2017, as it was decided the 2016 edition would be the final incarnation on the namesake San Francisco islet. Organizers said the festival was forced to move to the other side of the island in 2016 because of development and construction at the previous site, which was the reason for the hiatus and new location.
“We are excited to finally reveal the next chapter of our festival, which is coming to Oakland this October. The citys vibe, culture and diversity is the backbone of the Bay Area, and one that we are proud to now call home,” Allen Scott, EVP at Another Planet Entertainment said. “In our quest to find the location that best embodies what has made Treasure Island Music Festival the special fest that it is, Middle Harbor Shoreline Park quickly became the clear choice. With breathtaking landscapes featuring views of both the San Francisco Bay and city skylines, while maintaining a unique sense of remoteness and being situated atop a historically-significant site, we hope to continue offering our guests a truly special music festival experience.”
That 2016 edition saw stormy weather causing a sea of issues, which prevented several artists from taking the stage, but also saw others – like Oakland’s own Kamaiyah – rise to the occasion.
The last TIMF featured Ice Cube, Sigur Rós, Young Thug, Glass Animals and Purity Ring. The event is promoted by Another Planet Entertainment and Noise Pop, which produces its own namesake, multi-venue SF showcase festival.
The event has been big business, logging 10 previous editions. The 2015 edition (featuring The National, Chvrches, Deadmau5) reported $2.5 million grossed and 26,835 tickets moved, and the 2014 edition (featuring Massive Attack, Alt-J, Outkast, and Zedd) reported nearly $3 million grossed off 33,278 tickets.
