Missing Frightened Rabbit Frontman Scott Hutchison Found Dead

The front man of Frightened Rabbit committed suicide

The body of Frightened Rabbit frontman Scott Hutchison, who had been missing since Wednesday, was found by Scotland police on the evening of Thursday, May 10.

The discovery was made at Port Edgar, near South Queensferry, according to the Edinburgh police division. It launched an investigation after Hutchison had been reported missing, and confirmed today that it was indeed Hutchison’s body.

Hutchison’s band members had voiced their concerns about his missing on Frightened Rabbit’s socials on Wednesday, explaining that their lead singer had been in “in a fragile state and may not be making the best decisions for himself right now.”

Hutchison’s family released the following statement through Scotland police:

“As a family, we are utterly devastated with the tragic loss of our beloved Scott. Despite his disappearance, and the recent concerns over his mental health, we had all remained positive and hopeful that he would walk back through the door, having taken some time away to compose himself.

“Scott, like many artists, wore his heart on his sleeve and that was evident in the lyrics of his music and the content of many of his social media posts. He was passionate, articulate and charismatic, as well as being one of the funniest and kindest people we knew. Friends and family would all agree that he had a brilliant sense of humor and was a great person to be around.

“In addition to his musical success, Scott was a wonderful son, brother, uncle and friend. Despite whatever else was going on in his life he always had time for those he cared for.

“Depression is a horrendous illness that does not give you any alert or indication as to when it will take hold of you. Scott battled bravely with his own issues for many years and we are immensely proud of him for being so open with his struggles. His willigness to discuss these matters in the public domain undoubtedly raised awareness of mental health issues and gave others confidence and belief to discuss their own issues.

“To all of those who have come forward with such kind messages of support over the past couple of days, we wish to express our most sincerest of thanks. We have been overwhelmed by the love that has been conveyed, not only to Scott, but to our family. It means the world to us.

“We also want to thank Police Scotland and the Dakota Hotel for all of their assistance since Wednesday.

“We now ask that our privacy be respected so that we may come to terms with our loss.”

Hutchison had hinted at committing suicide in his lyrics. In the 2008 song “Floating The Forth” he sings: “And fully clothed, I float away. Down the Forth, into the sea. I think I’ll save suicide for another day.” South Queensferry, where his body was found, lies on the south bank of the Forth estuary, where the river enters the North Sea.

Josh Javor, one of Hutchison’s UK agents at X-ray told Pollstar: “Scott was kind, creative, funny and hugely talented. I am glad to have known him and honored to have worked with him. He was not just a client but a friend and I will miss him dearly.”

A statement from Hutchison’s band members reads: “There are no words to describe the overwhelming sadness and pain that comes with the death of our beloved Scott but to know he is no longer suffering brings us some comfort. Reading messages of support and hope from those he has helped through his art has helped immensely and we encourage you to continue doing this. He will be missed by all of us and his absence will always be felt but he leaves a legacy of hope, kindness and color that will forever be remembered and shared. Rest peacefully Scott. Much love. Grant, Billy, Andy and Simon x.”

Hutchison’s label, Atlantic Record, also released a statement: “We’re devastated by the tragic loss of Scott Hutchison. Our heartfelt condolences go out to his family, the band and to everyone who knew and loved Scott, a brilliant, deep and beautiful soul gone far too soon.”
