Swedish House Mafia Reunites At Ultra Music Festival Miami

The rumors of a Swedish House Mafia reunion turned out to be true, when the EDM trio closed this year’s Ultra Music Festival, March 25.

A potential reunion at the festival’s 20th edition this year was rumored about for quite a while, fueled by comments made by DJs such as Hardwell, or the viral marketing campaign that saw SHM logos appear all over Miami prior to the event.

The band hasn’t announced any touring plans yet. Pollstar has reached out to the band’s agent for comment. During the Ultra reunion gig, Axwell said, “it’s Swedish House Mafia for life this time,” which hints at a proper reunion, including new music and tours.

The only message from the group on its socials reads: “It’s time.”

Swedish House Mafia announced their “One Last Tour” farewell tour in 2012: 58 dates between November and March 2013, with their official last performance at Ultra Music Festival Miami. Pollstar’s box office data, based on 22 box office reports, indicates the tour sold an average of 23,818 tickets per show.

Speaking at Pollstar Live! 2017, OCESA’s Leizer Guss said the tour “opened a lot of people’s eyes,” to the international potential of EDM.

Band members, Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso have been enjoying individual success during the past five years. Axwell and Ingrosso have been touring together as Axwell Ingrosso since 2014. 

Swedish House Mafia weren’t the only act celebrating a comeback at Ultra. Their countryman Avicii also returned to the live stage, after announcing his retirement from touring in April 2016, citing health issues.
