Culture Club & The B-52’s Plot Summer Fun

Culture Club has cooked up a summer tour with The B-52’s and special guest Tom Bailey from the Thompson Twins.

There’s a lot to love about “The Life Tour.”  First off, you get great songs from the ’80s like “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me,” Karma Chameleon” and “I’ll Tumble 4 Ya” from Boy George and Culture Club, and numbers like “Rock Lobster,” “Love Shack” and “Private Idaho” from The B-52’s. 

Then you’ve got Tom Bailey’s musical heritage from his years with the Thompson Twins and songs such as “Hold Me Now” and “You Take Me Up.”

Running June 29-Oct. 3 followed by a Culture Club-only concert at the Big Fresno Fair in Fresno, Calif., “The Life Tour” stops include two nights at Ravinia Festival near Chicago, two nights at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga, Calif., and single evenings in markets like Denver, San Diego, St. Paul and Los Angeles.

And in case you were wondering, the Culture Club lineup includes original members Roy Hay, Mikey Craig and Jon Moss as well as George Alan O’Dowd, aka Boy George.

“We put together an amazing show that is going to be filled with hits and fabulous memories, we know it will be hands-down this summer’s best night out,” said Boy George in a statement.

Although Culture Club played a few shows in North America in 2017, digging through Pollstar’s enormous boxoffice data heap that’s hermetically sealed within four-foot-thick tungsten walls shows a much lengthier outing in 2016.  Reports submitted include a night at the H-E-B Performance Hall at The Tobin Center in San Antonio, Texas, where Boy George & Company played two nights and sold all of the venue’s 3,476 tickets and grossed $301,997.  However, the band’s gig at Verizon Theatre at Grand Prairie two nights later didn’t sell as well and moved only 1,820 out of 5,655 tickets for a gross nearing $139,000. 

The B-52’s played several shows in 2017 with boxoffice results ranging from less than 50 percent of tickets sold to nights where they had to turn away business.  Like the 1,360 capacity Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater in Apple Valley, Minn., where the band played to a full house and grossed $86,430.
