The operators of Dortmund’s Phoenixhalle have found a naming rights sponsor in the German beer brand Warsteiner. The official opening is scheduled for April 27.

The building has maintained its industrial charm
Phoenixhalle has been hosting concerts since November, however, operators Four Artists waited until they found a name sponsor before officially opening the venue as Warsteiner Music Hall.
German rap veterans Die Fantastischen Vier, who are co-owners of Four Artists and thus of the music hall, are going to perform at the opening. The day coincides with the release of the band’s new album Captain Fantastic.
It took four years of construction works to convert Dortmund’s former steelworks Phoenix West into a music venue. The first concert, by Berlin band SDP, took place on Nov. 16. The hall has been hosting concerts ever since.

Topping out party
Marteria, our ILMC bonus issue cover star, played the hall on March 11, when his show was reportedly interrupted for 15 minutes due to a power failure. If you read the cover story, you will know that a blackout isn’t enough to stop the rapper.
Alex Richter, co-owner and CEO of Four Artists, told local press that finding a naming rights sponsor for a hall the size of this one was quite unusual, and proved the venue concept.
The old steelworks’ smelting furnace and the raw charm of its industrial architecture were preserved in the refurbishment, to please not only concert but architecture lovers, too. The venue’s entire infrastructure can be stored in two newly constructed building extensions, and there is a club in the basement.
