United Airlines Gets Naming Rights To Memorial Coliseum

United Airlines has secured the naming rights to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in support of the famed USC stadium’s $270 million renovation.

The project will restore and preserve the 93,607-capacity home of the University of California Trojons, in addition to upgrading facilities for fans and athletes.   

The Coliseum will officially change its name in 2019 after the renovations are complete.

Upgrades include additional aisles, handrails, larger seats, more legroom, updated Wi-Fi concession stand improvements, in addition to the to updates electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems.

“The University has a time-honored commitment to the Coliseum, serving as its longest enduring tenant. USC is honored to be the caretaker of this Los Angeles treasure,” said USC President C. L. Max Nikas in a statement. “Together with United, we can ensure the Coliseum’s future as a world-class venue and true community asset.”

USC operates the stadium under a 98-year lease with the city, county and state. The lease includes provisions to secure naming rights that would help underwrite restoration.

“United has been part of the Los Angeles community for more than 80 years. Sponsoring the Memorial Coliseum, an athletic and architectural icon, as well as USC, an intellectual and cultural beacon, reaffirms our broader commitment to serving the people, communities and business of this region,” Janet Lamkin, President of United Airlines, said in a statement.

The stadium is the only venue in the world to have hosted two Olympiads, two Super Bowls and a World Series. It has been the home of the USC Trojons since it opened in 1923.

The stadium is located in Exhibition Park, which has hosted several music festivals, including Air + Style, Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival and FYF Festival.
