The Verve Pipe Lights Up Winter
Derek Ketchum – The Verve Pipe
Alt-rock’s The Verve Pipe gets busy in early 2018 with the band that brought the world “The Freshmen,” “Photograph,” “Hero,” and “Never Let You Down” slapping some snow tires on the ol’ tour bus for a January-February run across the land.
Homer, N.Y., Jan. 11 is the place and date for The Verve Pipe’s winter tour launch. Stopping in Asbury Park, N..J., for the Light OF Day Foundation benefit show Jan. 12; the band has lined up gigs in New York, Boston, and Columbus, Ohio, before plunging into the sunbelt for shows in Fort Lauderdale, Tampa and St. Augustine. Last entry on the current schedule has The Verve Pipe return to its West Michigan roots for a night in Grand Rapids Feb. 10.
The Verve Pipe released its sixth studio album, Parachute, earlier this year. The band also delivered its first-ever concert album – Villains – Live & Acoustic.
There have been some changes during the band’s 25-year plus history. Today’s Verve Pipe features founder Brian Vander Ark on vocals and guitar, along with Randy Sly (keyboards, backing vocals), Joel Ferguson (bass, backing vocals), Sam Briggs (drums, percussion), Channing Lee (backing vocals) and Craig Griffith (harmonica, backing vocals).
The Verve Pipe played a few dates during the summer, a journey that included sell-out performances at 300-cap City Winery venues in New York and Chicago, while the box office report from the Nashville venue of the same name showed the band doing 61 percent of capacity.
