Following a call alerting police that the woman was missing at around 1 a.m. Sept. 11, officers conducted a search of the festival area. The woman was found in a wooded area close to the site.
Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Derbyshire said: “Following the discovery of the woman’s body we have now launched an investigation into her death. We have specially trained officers supporting her family at this very difficult time.
“Inquiries are now under way to establish how she died. A postmortem examination will be carried out in due course and this should give us more of an indication as to the cause of her death.
“We are working closely with the festival organizers and I would appeal to anyone with any information about the incident to contact Dorset police.”
The news later surfaced that the deceased was the daughter of British TV actor John Michie, who said the death “was not a murder” but “a tragic mistake,” according to British tabloid The Sun. He added that his daughter, Louella, was at the festival with a boyfriend.
The death overshadowed what had been a successful 14th edition.
The xx, A Tribe Called Quest, Pet Shop Boys, Rag ’N’ Bone Man, Laura Mvula, Danny Brown and more played the event, which had moved to Lulworth Estate in Dorset for the first time.
A promoter statement reads: “Following today’s news announcement, the team at Bestival are devastated to hear about this tragic news. We continue to support the police in their ongoing investigation and our thoughts and prayers are with all the woman’s family and friends.”
