Update: Venues Prep For Hurricane Irma

Cancellations and postponements continue to come in because of the threat of Hurricane Irma, with affected dates spreading from Florida to the Carolinas.
Tony Bennett’s show planned for Friday night at the
Ralphie May’s run of dates at Off The Hook Comedy Club in Naples, Fla., has been postponed to Jan. 4-7.
Sean Chambers’ Sept. 8 gig at Skipper’s Smokehouse in Tampa has been pushed back to Sept. 30.

The Roasting Room Lounge & Listening Room in Bluffton, S.C., has postponed all of this week’s shows to 2018. Levi Lowrey with Wyatt Durrette will play Feb. 16, rather than Sept. 8. Morgan Wade & The Stepbrothers has been rescheduled to March 16, from Sept. 9. A new date has not yet been announced for The High Divers with Motel Radio, which was scheduled Sept. 7.
“We care about you and our artists before, during, and after the show. All tickets purchased online have been refunded. Stay safe out there!” the venue posted on Facebook.
Mike Birbiglia has nixed two shows in South Carolina. His Sept. 7 performance at Furman University in Greenville has been canceled, while a new date will be announced for his Sept. 8 show at The Gaillard Center in Charleston. All tickets issued for the initial show at the Gaillard Center will be honored at the new event. Refunds will also be available for those who can’t make the new dates.
John Moreland’s Sept. 12 gig at the Jaeb Theatre in Tampa has been canceled.
Hurricane Irma has also messed with the schedule at South Carolina’s Music Farm Charleston, as well as Music Farm Columbia. Zoogma’s Sept. 10 show in Charleston, with support from Cofresi and Bells & Robes, is being postponed, with a new date to be announced. The Sept. 11 WildMayhem concert in Columbia featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute band Behind The Sun is also postponed. Kyle was supposed to play both venues. Rather than blaming Irma, his performances are being canceled because of “an exciting unannounced opportunity in addition to finishing his new album.”
Dark Tranquillity had canceled its Sept. 7 show at The Haven Lounge in Winter Park, Fla., and its Sept. 8 concert at The Orpheum in Tampa.
The Werks has been forced to postpone the the next four shows because of Hurricane Irma: Sept. 7 at The Beacham in Orlando, Sept. 8 at Jannus Live in Saint Petersburg, Fla., Sept. 9 at Live on the River – Club Mavericks in Jacksonville, and Sept. 10 at The Blue Eyed Muse in Wilmington, N.C.

The package tour known as
The Rock The Universe event at Universal Orlando Resort will continue as planned on Sept. 8 but the Sept. 9 show has been canceled, along with the early morning Sunday worship service on Sept. 10. The lineup for Saturday was supposed to feature
USA Today reported Thursday that “Hurricane Irma could create one of the largest mass evacuations in U.S. history.” The publication notes that three Florida counties were ordered to evacuate and that two other counties issues voluntary evacuation orders.
The governors of Georgia and South Carolina have also “ordered mandatory evacuations of low-lying coastal areas around Savannah and Charleston,” according to CNN.
The National Hurricane Center’s Hurricane Irma Public Advisory report dated Sept. 7 says that, “Hurricane conditions are possible within the watch area in Florida by Sunday, with tropical storm conditions possible by late Saturday.”
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for parts of the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Bahamas, as well as the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Cuban provinces of Camaguey, Ciego de Avila, Sancti Spiritus, and Villa Clara. A Hurricane Watch is in effect for the Jupiter Inlet southward around the Florida peninsula to Bonita Beach, Florida Keys, Lake Okeechobee, Florida Bay, and the Cuban provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, Las Tunas and Matanzas. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for Haiti from south of Le Mole St. Nicholas to Port-Au-Prince, and the Cuban provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas. A Storm Surge Watch is in effect for the Jupiter Inlet southward around the Florida peninsula to Bonita Beach and the Florida Keys.
Florida Preps For Hurricane Irma (posted Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 5:45 p.m.)
As Florida waits to see how Hurricane Irma will impact the continental U.S., venues in the Sunshine State are canceling or postponing events in preparation, including gigs from Paramore, Adam Ant and Bryan Adams.
Adam Ant’s Sept. 6 gig at Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale is still on but he’s postponed the next three shows: Capitol Theatre in Clearwater Sept. 8, The Beacham in Orlando Sept. 9, and the Performing Arts Center in Jacksonville Sept. 10.
“The well-being of all of Adam’s fans is a priority and the decision to reschedule the three shows is already under way,” Adam posted on Facebook. “More details regarding the new dates will follow as soon as they have been finalized, we know that this will be a great disappointment to those that were to attend but safety will always come first.”
Bryan Adams has postponed the following three gigs, citing “the uncertainty of Hurricane Irma and for concertgoers safety”: Sept. 8 at Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheater, Sept. 9 at Daily’s Place Amphitheater in Jacksonville, and Sept. 10 at Coachman Park in Clearwater, Fla. Fans are told to stay tuned for the new dates to be announced.

Paramore is set to take the stage tonight at Jacksonville’s Moran Theatre. The band’s next two dates have been moved to December, with the Dr. Phillips Center For Performing Arts in Orlando scheduled Dec. 5 and Fillmore Miami Beach postponed to Dec. 6.

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood has postponed its five Florida gigs and plans to reschedule the performances in late February. Tickets will be honored at the new dates. Refunds are also available at points of purchase. The gigs were scheduled Sept. 7 at Pompano Beach Amphitheatre, Sept. 8 at St. Augustine Amphitheater, Sept. 9 at St. Petersburg’s Jannus Landing, Sept. 10 at Orlando’s The Social, and Sept. 12 at Pensacola’s Vinyl Music Hall.
Blackberry Smoke was scheduled to appear with CRB Sept. 7-9.

Steve Earle & The Dukes and Los Lobos have postponed their Sept. 8 joint show at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale. Fans are advised to hold onto their tickets. Refunds or exchange information will be announced.
Both acts were also supposed to play Sing Out Loud Festival, which takes place at various venues in Saint Augustine. The Sept. 8-10 weekend, which was also set to feature performances from Lucero, Lake Street Dive and more, has been called off. The festival’s Sept. 15-17 and Sept. 22-24 weekends are still on.
The Big Orange music festival in Punta Gorda has been canceled. The Sept. 8-9 lineup included Los Lobos, J.J. Grey & Mofro, Eric Lindell and more.
Modest Mouse has canceled its Sept. 7 gig at St. Augustine Amphitheatre and its Sept. 8 show at Orlando’s Hard Rock Live. Refunds are available at points of purchase.
The Sept. 8 Chris Tucker and D.L. Hughley show at Amalie Arena has been pushed back to Oct. 7. All tickets for the original date are valid for the rescheduled show. Refunds are also available at points of purchase if you can’t make the new date.
The National Hurricane Center reported Sept. 6, “Hurricane watches are in effect for the northwestern Bahamas and much of Cuba. Irma is likely to bring dangerous wind, storm surge, and rainfall to portions of these areas on Friday and Saturday. The threat of direct hurricane impacts in Florida over the weekend and early next week has increased. Hurricane watches could be issued for portions of the Florida Keys and the Florida peninsula on Thursday.”
NPR pointed out, “Forecasters predict that Irma’s damage may be more tornado-like than the devastation wreaked by more typical hurricanes. … Unlike Harvey, Irma’s damage should come primarily from storm surge and the violent winds.”
Mandatory evacuation orders have already been issued for the Florida Keys, according to NPR.
