Lionel Richie Lights Up Vegas

Lionel Richie is currently trekking North America for his “All The Hits” tour with Mariah Carey, and now he has plans to take on a Las Vegas residency at The Axis At Planet Hollywood.

The residency gigs will be in November and December of 2017 and March of 2018. A presale is ongoing now and the general onsale begins Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. PDT.

Richie will be playing the Wells Fargo Center with Mariah Carey tonight and those two are in the U.S. and Canada until Sept. 5, when things wrap up in Seattle. After that, Richie will hit Australia with Nile Rodgers starting Sept. 30 in Perth.  There are also two New Zealand shows locked in for Oct. 19 and 21, in Christchurch and Auckland respectively.

The tour with Mariah Carey had some rescheduled dates after the former Commodores frontman suffered a knee injury, but things are now fully underway and apparently doing decent business. California seems to have been particularly good to the pair, as they grossed more than $1 million in Anaheim and moved 96 percent of tickets to their gig in Oakland’s Oracle Arena.

The venue should be familiar terrain for the singer, as he performed three nights at The Axis At Planet Hollywood last year, grossing more than $1.3 million over the run.

The Axis at Planet Hollywood has been tending towards 90s pop acts for its residencies recently. Pitbull was the last artist to complete a run earlier this month and now is the time for Britney Spears to shine on the Vegas stage. Britney will be temporarily relieved by Jennifer Lopez and followed by Oracle Arena before Richie’s first run of dates.

Britney has been absolutely crushing her residency by the way, grossing more than $2 million and moving more than 90 percent of available tickets in each of the last two weekends we have reports for.
