Henry Jamison’s ‘Wild’ Summer

Folk singer/songwriter Henry Jamison is preparing to hit the road ahead of the release of his debut album, The Wilds.

Due out Oct. 20 on Akira Records, The Wilds includes the track “Real Peach.” The tune – Jamison’s first single – has been streamed more than 12 million times on Spotify.

“I was as surprised as anyone by the way ‘Real Peach’ took off on Spotify,” Jamison said. “I had a few conversations on my most recent tour with people who had their first kiss or got engaged with the song as their soundtrack, so I guess it’s resonated with a large handful of romantics out there.”

Although Jamison is an up-and-coming artist, songwriting and poetry are in his blood. Jamison, who was raised by a classical composer father and an English professor mother, began making his own recordings on cassette tapes in elementary school. His lineage includes the 14th Century British poet John Gower and Civil War-ear songwriter George Frederick Root, who wrote the “Battle Cry of Freedom.”

The North American summer tour with Gracie and Rachel kicks off Aug. 24 in Montreal, Quebec, at Brasserie Beaubien.

The excursion includes gigs at Chicago’s Schubas Tavern, Philadelphia’s World Café Live, New York’s Mercury Lounge, Los Angeles’s Bootleg Theater, and San Francisco’s Café Du Nord.

Jamison also has an appearance booked in his native Vermont at Grand Point North Festival in Burlington Sept. 17.
