Jonathan Demme Dies At 73

Jonathan Demme, who won an Oscar for directing “The Silence of the Lambs” but was also known for his film work with the music community, died of complications of esophageal cancer in his Manhattan apartment at 73.

He was the filmmaker behind the acclaimed 1984 Talking Heads concert film “Stop Making Sense,” directed the film “Philadelphia,” including Bruce Springsteen’s original song and video; and had numerous collaborations with Neil Young.

Among his documentaries with Young are “Journey Through the Past,” “Rust Never Sleeps,” “Human Highway” and “Greendale.”

Demme also filmed Young’s series of 2006 concerts at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium for “Neil Young: Heart of Gold.”
