ILMC Wraps Up, Arthur Awards Winners

The 29th ILMC closed on Friday, March 10, having welcomed over 1,100 delegates from more than 60 countries to London’s Royal Garden Hotel.

Some panel highlights included a talk about new festival formats with Jan Quiel from ICS Festival Service, a company that successfully expanded its Wacken brand in Germany and added cruises and skiing events to its offering for metal fans with Full Metal Cruise and Full Metal Mountain, respectively.

 In another session Ruth Barlow (Beggars Group), Andras Berta (Sziget), Rob Challice (Coda), Ben Challis (Glastonbury Festival), Lars-Oliver Vogt (Live Nation) and host Jake Beaumont-Nesbitt (IMMF) discussed broadcasting rights for live recordings and how artists and festivals could make the most of them.

Greg Lowe (United Talent Agency), Jonny Dawson (ATC Management), Sophie Lobl (C3 Presents), Stephan Thanscheidt (FKP Scorpio) and Tom Windish (Paradigm Talent Agency) talked about the festival’s responsibility towards emerging artists. Industry veterans Alex Hardee (Coda), Andy Lenthall (Production Services Association), Adam Parsons (Siren Management), Ed Bicknell (Damage Mgmt), Andrew Zweck (Sensible Events) and host Paul Crockford (PC Management), shared some of their most hilarious experiences with the audience on a panel dubbed “Tales from the Front Line.”

At the traditional ILMC Autopsy, people seemed especially pleased with the variety of panels. The one on mental health with Andy Franks and Matt Thomas received particular praise, as did Jon Slade’s intimate session, in which he talked candidly about the downfall of Elastic Artists. 

The busiest event at the ILMC 2017 was UTA’s happy hour on Wednesday. This year’s edition boasted a couple of premieres: it took place mid-week, ending on Friday, and there was a dedicated festivals and venues summit.

Also, France and Switzerland presented new talent at live showcases.

 The annual Arthur Awards took place in the stunning ballroom of London’s 8Northumberland hotel March 9. 

Winners include The Royal Albert Hall (First Venue To Come Into Your Head), Live Nation’s Selina Emeny (Most Professional Professional), FKP’s Stephan Thanscheidt (The Promoters’ Promoter), Live Nation’s Sarah Donovan (The People’s Assistant), British Summer Time In Hyde Park (Liggers’ Favourite Festival), CTS Eventim (The Golden Ticket), John Giddings (Second Least Offensive Agent), UTA’s Oliver Ward (Tomorrow’s New Boss) and Eat to the Beat (Services Above and Beyond). The Bottle Award went to legendary Belgium promoter Herman Schueremans.
