Baez, Carpenter & Indigo Girls = Four Voices
Joan Baez, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Indigo Girls’ Amy Ray and Emily Saliers are combining their talents for a special run of concerts that’s being called the “Four Voices Tour.”
Joseph Sinnott – Four Voices
Mary Chapin Carpenter, Amy Ray, Joan Baez, Emily Saliers
These are four artists who need no introduction, from Baez’s impact on the folk music world to Carpenter’s three-decade career that’s been honored with four consecutive Grammys for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, to the success Ray and Saliers have had since teaming up in the mid-80s as the Indigo Girls.
The idea for the tour came about when the singer/songwriters were gathered together last year at Baez’s 75th birthday concert.
The women first shared a lineup – and began their longtime friendship – when Carpenter, Ray and Saliers joined Baez for a 1991 performance in Berkeley to benefit her human rights organization Humanitas. They reunited at an Earth Day celebration and the Newport Folk Festival.
