Undercover Festival Moves To Amusement Park

The fifth edition of the Undercover underground and alternative music festival will take place at Dreamland Margate in Kent, England, Sept. 8-9.

Undercover Festival started out in Surrey and moved to Brighton in 2016. It had to move again “for various reasons,” as its promoters write on Facebook. The new site in Kent has a capacity of about 800 and won’t allow for camping, “but this area has accommodation that we understand is cheaper than Brighton and loads of it.”

Dr. & the Medics, The Urban Voodoo Machine, The Satellites,  Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs, Army of Skanks, Church of Eon, Karl Phillips & the Rejects, The Fanzines, The Weird Things and the Dreamland Margate are among the confirmed acts on the ska, dub, reggae and punk-heavy bill.

“Undercover is an X Factor free zone and there is no place for that schmaltzy pulp on our stages,” said festival organiser Mick Moriarty. “We believe the usual run-of-the-mill festivals tend to book bands that in the main are broadly similar – and way too safe! We try for a lineup and experience that is something different and appeals to a crowd definitely not catered for elsewhere.”

Moriarty said his festival has been growing for the last five years “because what we have created really has struck a chord with people who like their music raw and full of the passion and energy that only acts like ours generate.”
