DA Calls Advertised Bay Area Concert Fake
A New Year’s Eve party featuring K-Ci & JoJo, Dru Hill and Next was promised to Berkeley fans this weekend, but the Alameda County DA’s Office said the whole thing is a sham.
The “Rocking ’90s New Year’s Eve” event described on PopGlowRun.com was advertised to take place in Berkeley on “Harbor Lights Yacht” on Dec. 31. The website says the concert would purportedly benefit the Alameda County Community food Bank and included different ticket packages, promising dance floors, open bars, dinner buffets, champagne, and other comforts.
Information on where to buy tickets wasn’t available at press time, and the DA’s office said the concert is not actually taking place, Bay City News reported. Tickets were advertised at $99 or $129 plus fees.
The East Bay Times reported getting a hold of a woman affiliated with the company AFAA Sports through a phone number provided for the event. Pollstar tried phone numbers on the event’s website, Facebook page and associated with the domain registrar, but was unable to reach any representative.
The event website claims it is presented by Balldrop and the Facebook page associated with the event was called “American Concerts,” which was recently created and also claimed it was associated with Bruno Mars’ upcoming tour.
The Alameda County Food Bank spokesman Michael Altfest told BCN that the food bank was not affiliated with the concert in any way. You can learn more about how to actually donate to that organization at ACCFB.com.
