Tomorrowland Brasil History?

“It’s with heavy hearts that we inform you that Tomorrowland Brasil will not take place in 2017,” a statement on the festival website read. “Unfortunately, due to external factors we can no longer create the right environment to host a Tomorrowland Festival in Brazil.”

Brazilian publications El Nacional and Globo reported that “external factors” means economic uncertainty and other forms of instability.

Tomorrowland Brasil was held in 2015 and 2016, and was of the country’s largest EDM events.

Tickets to 2015’s debut iteration sold out in three hours, according to Globo. TomorrowWorld, the U.S. edition of the festival held in Chattahoochee Hills, Ga., annually since 2013, was canceled in 2016 after SFX declared bankruptcy in February.

The 2015 iteration of that festival was marred with difficulties caused by weather and lack of transportation.

Despite all of this, the original Tomorrowland festival put on by ID&T in Belgium continues to enjoy massive popularity. This year’s iteration of that festival saw a full 180,000 in attendance.

SFX bought out ID&T in 2013, though that company’s founders, Manu and Michiel Beers, eventually got their ownership in the Belgian Tomorrowland back.

For its part, SFX’s plans for reorganization were confirmed Nov. 9 by Judge Mary Walrath, according to Law360.

Through the plan the company will emerge from its over-$400 million debt and maintain ownership over the music platform Beatport and its core festivals. SFX did not respond to a request for comment at press time.
