Helga Festival Award Winners

For the fourth time the Helga Festival Award was handed out at this year’s Reeperbahn Festival in Hamburg, Sept. 22.

The jury is made up of live professionals that usually work behind the scenes, such as caterers, roadies, technicians, vendors, sanitary and security personnel, but also promoters and stage managers.

They awarded Feel festival twice, in the categories of “most charming campsite” as well as “most magnificent toilet experience.”

The award for nicest security went to Open Flair, while Fusion took home the “flaming love for detail” prize. Highfield was picked for having the “most emotional moment,” while MS Dockville was awarded for offering the “best orientation.”

The public traditionally votes the best festival category, which went to Hurricane festival this year. It will mean a lot to promoters Folkert Koopmans and Stephan Thanscheidt, as they were forced to temporarily suspend this year’s edition on Saturday, Jun. 25.

“Helga” is a German female name. It gained some popularity in the past, when people used to randomly yell it out at festivals. There are many stories surrounding the origins of this practice. Most are about a guy who had lost his girlfriend at a festival and was therefore desperately calling out for her.
