Frontier To Produce Concerts Shows For Radio Network
The first of these will be behind the “RnB Fridays” show, which since its launch last year has become the highest-rated show for its female-skewed Hits network that has 50 stations across the country.
The show has yielded two multi-platinum compilation albums through Universal Music, and has regular branded club nights in four cities. Frontier stages the inaugural RnB Fridays Live Tour in the late Australian spring with Nelly, TLC, Mya, 112, Montell Jordan, Blackstreet, Blu Cantrell, Dante Thomas, Fatman Scoop, Kevin Lyttle and DJ Horizon. The shows, each to last up to six hours, begins Nov. 18 at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney. It moves to Eatons Hill Outdoors, Brisbane (Nov. 19), and The Gats @ nib Stadium, Perth (Nov. 20), before winding up Nov. 25 at Melbourne’s Hisense Arena.
“The RnB Fridays brand has been an amazing success story in its radio form, and the progression into the live arena is a natural way to mutually benefit both the artists involved and the brand itself,” said Matt Gudinski, executive director of Mushroom Group, of which Frontier Touring is part. Gudinski, son of Mushroom founder Michael Gudinski, is also a major R&B fan and was behind Frontier’s touring acts including Drake, Usher, and Tyler, The Creator. Gudinski hopes that RnB Fridays Live could see the advent of R&B and rap festivals as major events Down Under. He is equally aware that inexperienced promoters have seen acts pull out at the last moment, and attempts such as Supafest and Soulfest failed to last the distance.
