In February, Martin John Fulton jumped the fence to the Perth festival, with online footage showing him kicking Michael Rigby as he lay on the ground after attempting to restrain another fence-jumper.

Fulton pleaded guilty in June to assault occasioning bodily harm, trespassing at the festival Feb. 27 and stealing. He was to have returned to Perth Magistrates Court July 19 for sentencing. But the hearing heard Fulton had been overseas attending a wedding, breaching his bail conditions.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance Aug. 2. His lawyer said he realised this was “by no means a good excuse.”

Rigby’s security colleagues said Fulton deserved jail time given that, from comments the teen had made on Facebook, he had attended the festival with the express purpose of harming a security guard.
